Daily Photo – Thursday 3rd September 2015 – City Hall lanterns

Another day, another lunchtime wander.

Passed City Hall again, and focused on one element I really like, the light fittings that adorn the outside walls.

Daily Photo – Wednesday 2nd September 2015 – Views of Brisbane Festival

Southbank Β is busy with yet another festival going on, this time badged as the Brisbane festival.

It certainly brings a wonderful vibrant sight and sound to my view whilst walking over the bridge across the river.

Brisbane Festival adding more light to the Southbank view.

And when I actually walk up close to the area on my way to get to my weekly cinema fix, I spotted these fabulous glass panels at the top of what I think is the Spiegeltent.

Not just a simple marquee

I’m sure I’ll be back on the festival site before it leaves town.

Daily Photo – Tuesday 1st September 2015 – Pink City Hall

City Hall in pink

Many of Brisbane’s buildings and structures are lit up at night.

And it is not uncommon for some of them to feature colour schemes. In fact charities can apply for colour schemes to be applied to help raise awareness, or corporates can pay for it.

Tonight, as you can see, City Hall has been turned pink. I could look up if there is a specific reason….but actually I just enjoy the ever changing colours appearing on my familiar city views.

Daily Photo – Monday 31st August 2015 – Hoovering Trevor’s grass

At the back of the Science Centre, there is a semi-outdoor (i.e. there is practically nothing where a wall would make it inside) space, that houses a couple of very large dinosaur models in a permanent exhibit.

If you haven’t guessed yet, I’ve nicknamed the T- Rex: Trevor.

Hoovering Trevor’s ‘grass’

And every morning the fake grass around this dinosaur zone gets hoovered (spot the high vis in the bottom left hand corner). This makes me smile.

What’s the strangest place you’ve seen being hoovered…..or indeed have hoovered yourself?

Daily Photo – Sunday 30th August 2015 – Fruit at B2B

Today was what is known in the local running calendar as Bridge to Brisbane Day. A 10km event starting at the Gateway bridge, going over it (I’m so glad I didn’t research what that looked like before the day!), before heading towards the City.

So many positives for me to take away…..the fact that the local public transport operators put on free extra services at stupid o clock on a Sunday morning, to get just under 17000 (yes that’s right seventeen thousand!) runners to the start line. A fabulous sight sitting on a train (one every few minutes) in the just after dawn hours and seeing nothing but race numbers attached to the front of every lyra/active wear traveller filling every carriage.

And then, there was the fact that I ran (well didn’t resort to walking anyway) the whole thing without stopping. Yes I have run 10k without stopping before, but not for a long time, and certainly not when the start was up a long hill. And yes I wanted to stop on many occasion, but after ticking off each kilometre marker that thought of….”come on just one more”… kicked in, so when I got to the 7km marker it turned into the ….. “well you can’t stop now”…..thought. Even when at about 9km, another damn hill appeared…. And I stated out loud (much to the surprise and amusement of several strangers running around me at the time)…. “Oh s##t….Right….Come on S!”.

So finish line crossed, T-shirt collected and lots of water drunk, I staggered out into the finish village to check out what was there before heading home (on the free train of course).

My favourite sight……the masses of chopped fruit just ready for the taking. Super refreshing and a nice change to the sugary snack bars usually handed out by some sponsor or other.

Just the odd bit of fruit!

Would I do it again? Of course I would….how else can I get the excuse to eat guilt free chocolate/cake πŸ˜‰

My stats: Finished in a time of 1:14:39, and placed 9885 out of 16784 finishers.

Daily Photo – Saturday 29th August 2015 – Autumn

One thing that still messes with my mind as someone who’s moved from the UK to Australia…. seasons.

Having them reversed, and therefore associated completely differently to the labels we apply to calendar months still throws me into the occasional confusion.

It just isn’t winter in August! (In my mind at least).

Autumn?

And this view of Musgrave Park on my walk home from parkrun this morning did not help with the confusion, even if it did add a massive grin to my face.

It’s winter here…heading into spring. Yet this scene of trees surrounded by their dropped and browned leaves is straight out of my Autumn memories bank.

And actually, I think I really liked a UK like Autumn. Those random sun lit days with a bit of cold in the air, the changing scenery as the plants and trees starting preparing themselves for winter. The simple joy of stomping/ kicking/ walking/ running through piles of leaves.

What seasons do you like….and why?

Daily Photo – Friday 28th August 2015 – Windows of City Hall

Another random lunchtime walk took me past City Hall today, and whilst as a whole it is a lovely looking building, I’ve started to try and look at the details too.

Windows of City Hall

These different shaped windows made me think of the TV program Playschool from my youth.

Which window shall we go through today?

Daily Photo – Thursday 27th August 2015 – Look up or down?

Don’t know about you, but I noticed there was a recent trend of articles, videos and social media posts encouraging people to look up from their gadgets and experience the world around them.

Whilst walking along Adelaide Street today in Brisbane I noticed this….

Walking on art

..embedded in the footpath it made me smile. Because actually you’ve got to be looking down to notice it.

And then further along the street I noticed this….

Mini logo

…that little logo placed in the corner of that tree grate thingy, is actually the logo commonly associated with Brisbane, used by Brisbane City Council. It represents the City Hall building.

And that lovely looking building will no doubt feature in posts on here now and in the future. Just search my tags for ‘City Hall’ if you’re interested.

Daily Photo – Wednesday 26th August 2015 – Market Day

Wednesday’s are market days in Redacliff Square, right next to Brisbane’s central shopping mall. Every week a plethora of tasty delights, like fresh fruit and veg, cakes and breads of many varieties, healthy options, salamis, lemonade, nuts galore, jams and honey, and more to take away with you.

Of course not to mention the large selection of freshly prepared, before your eyes, mouth watering delights to tempt the senses if you venture that way on your way to and from work….or maybe even a lunch break.

Not that I’ve been tempted of course! πŸ˜‰
