One thing that still messes with my mind as someone who’s moved from the UK to Australia…. seasons.
Having them reversed, and therefore associated completely differently to the labels we apply to calendar months still throws me into the occasional confusion.
It just isn’t winter in August! (In my mind at least).
And this view of Musgrave Park on my walk home from parkrun this morning did not help with the confusion, even if it did add a massive grin to my face.
It’s winter here…heading into spring. Yet this scene of trees surrounded by their dropped and browned leaves is straight out of my Autumn memories bank.
And actually, I think I really liked a UK like Autumn. Those random sun lit days with a bit of cold in the air, the changing scenery as the plants and trees starting preparing themselves for winter. The simple joy of stomping/ kicking/ walking/ running through piles of leaves.
Looking over the barrier towards the river whilst at the Tenerife festival (a suburb of Brisbane) today, I saw these stones covered in shells (not sure what they are), and they immediately made me think fondly of three things:
I visited my first tea plantation in Darjeeling in the Himalayas in India a few months ago, and loved finding out some simple facts about the tea making process whilst being surrounded by the growing leaves themselves.
The verdict on this particular tin of the good stuff…..lovely. Subtle yet tasty – just how I like it.
I’m setting up this blog, largely for selfish reasons, to keep a record of what I get up to, and my wandering thoughts.
Also, my friends and family like to know what I’m up to, so this way they can find out as much or as little as they want, or just use it to ask me random questions when we talk on the phone.
I think I’m going to write about anything and everything. Having just recently travelled, and then migrated from one country to another, I suspect for a little while posts are going to relate to the moving country thing. But I am known to waffle sometimes, and go off at tangents….so you know…anything goes.
I’ll also be attempting to upload photos of things around me. Things I’ve noticed for the first time, places I’ve visited, stuff that reminds me about something, oh and the occasional food shot. I do like eating!
Hope you like it, and if you don’t, then you just won’t read any more. And that’s fine, ‘cos like I said….it’s for me really. Anything else is a bonus 🙂
